So if you read my previous post, you'll know I made some apple pie with apples I got from this great apple orchard outside DeKalb by Northern Illinois. I found this on a list of Apple Orchards in Illinois that a friend of mine shared with me on Facebook. I looked at other ones that were closer and whatnot but they were pricey cause they charged you a fee to get in and the price they charged you for picking apples and whatnot. I picked this one because I saw reviews about it online and it looked like a ton a fun. Plus, they had apple cider donuts and a petting zoo, what more could you want? My friends and I were suppose to go in mid-September but weather did not permit us to go and prior engagements got in the way. Hello Readers (if you exist out there.) Fall season is indeed among us which means one thing to me, PIE! Especially pie of the apple and pumpkin variety because what says fall better than that? I went to an apple orchard with a group of friends the other day and picked some apples with intentions to make apple pie and well to have fun at the orchard. I gathered enough to know to make one pie and of course I found a good recipe to try, and I used a new recipe as well. I used two different recipes to make this: one for the crust and one for the pie filling. So I apologize on my major slacking with this whole blog posting thing. I've actually made a bit of food from May until now and I just keep forgetting to post about it. This one is quite recent so I figured I do this one first. My birthday was coming up and I was trying to decide what kind of cake I should make for the occasion. I know I know you're probably like why are you making your own cake for your birthday? Why not?! I love baking and this was another excuse for me to bust out the mixer and whatnot.
